The Lord upholds all who fall, and lifts up all who are bowed down (Psalm 145:14).
Disaster!
Hi Reader
!
Are you ready for a disaster? Intentional Legacy by David McAlvany is a financial/wealth management book, but so much more. We learn the psychology behind the “shirtsleeves-to-shirtsleeves” phenomenon, where hard-earned wealth dissipates within three or four generations. Intentional teaching and internalized values can prevent this loss.
McAlvany also discusses preparing for disasters. We all know we need a water supply in case of an earthquake, extra cash if the water heater blows, or a hospital directive for that dreaded phone call. But most of us procrastinate. There’s just too much to do, and anyway, it can probably wait.
Until it can’t.
I brainstormed a list of possible disasters. Wow! They filled five categories. And here I was, cruising along with my eyes tight shut as if nothing could go wrong. Paul and I are getting to work on the list.
We never know what tomorrow will bring. But this we can take to the bank: Jesus loves us and wants to welcome us home, when that day comes. The Peace with God page on my website explores this topic further.
Have you experienced God’s protection in a disaster?
Writing News
This week, Wonders in the Deep reached Number 1 on the Kindle Best Sellers list, in Contemporary Christian Fiction! The Amazon Best Sellers lists are simply a measurement of how many books are selling at a given time. So it's not exactly the New York Times best seller list. But hey, I'll take it!
I registered for the Vision Christian Writers Conference at Mount Hermon, scheduled for late March. The setting is close to my old home in Ben Lomond—a redwood rainforest of breathtaking beauty. I took the picture below at last year’s conference.
I'm looking forward to reconnecting with some of the authors and editors I met last year.
Lastly in writing news, I'm planning my next novel, California 101 (Not the Highway). Disasters afoot! Stay tuned!
Prayer
No matter how well prepared we are for disaster, there is no substitute for prayer.
Dear Father,
Thank you for loving us and caring for our needs. You are the Good Shepherd. Like sheep, we need Your protection and guidance.
Our world is in a fragile state. Please prepare us for the coming days. Help us live by faith, trusting that You will bring us through whatever we face, as we keep our eyes on You.
In Christ’s name,
Amen
Life-Changing Fiction
I’ve noticed a “sisters” theme in some of the Christian novels I’ve read lately. One of my favorites was Della and Darby, by Southern author Susannah B. Lewis.
We see the twin sisters plan their 30th birthday party, hoping to offset the small-town scandal that has plagued their family since their mother’s passing. Both girls are nerdy and awkward. Della is flamboyant. Darby is an introvert who repeatedly shuts down her equally nerdy coworker, Cliff. Della’s crush on her boss, Dr. Faulkner, centers on her need for validation. But then she learns he is tangled up in his own scandal.
Will the sisters ever break free from the toxic pressures of rumor and shame?
